Lolita and Evita our two new diva's! This pair of red, long-haired females -- probably siblings  are a fun loving pair in need of a new home as their former owner needed assistance in her life due to her advancing age.  They have been loved and are hoping to find a new home that will love them just as much as their former human did.  Their coats are in a summer cut that is now growing out.  Their names are Evita (blue collar) and Lolita (red).  They are 5 to 7 years old, are spayed and current on their vaccinations. They have not lived with small children and will not be placed into a home with little ones due to this reason.  They would not do well with little children.  Both are crate trained, house trained and use to daily walks.  They must be adopted as a pair.  Very lively together and well-behaved.  They will go to their new home e with their crate, leashes, harnesses, large pillow, coats, etc.  A very sweet pair!
Don't see anything here that caught your eye???  There are always more homeless, needy Dachshunds arriving.  Check with any of our members or check this page.......  As you can see.....they are being adopted FAST!  Get an application in so that you are on our 'waiting' list!!
Regal Queenie,  a beautiful  standard Dachshund with a lovely deep red, smooth, glossy coat.  She weighs 30 lbs.-- a nice size for someone that wants to feel a 'dog' on the end of that leash.  She is 5 years old, spayed, and is up-to-date on vaccinations.  She uses a doggie door, and loves the outdoors.  She's lively and affectionate, a lap dog when you let her, and loves to sleep in your bed. Goes on long walks, chases rabbits, and responds well to verbal commands. Although she might like to be a bully because of her size, she is doing well  socially with a pack of 12 other dogs in her foster home with some encouragement.

Presenting Bonnie!  Never mind the fact that she is blind - our wee Bonnie lass is simply an AMAZING dog!  A red, smooth coated mini female, she entered rescue as an owner surrender  Her owner is experiencing health problems making it impossible for her to care for Bonnie in the manner she feels Bonnie deserves.  Bonnie will be seven in December and lost her sight three years ago to congenital glaucoma.  To see her in action you would never know she is visually impaired, Bonnie's other senses sharpened allowing her to get around wonderfully.  She was EXTREMELY well cared for and is in excellent health, up to date on all vaccinations, altered, heartworm negative, and her teeth are sparkling white from regular cleanings. I can not say enough wonderful things about this truly special little girl.  It's going to take a VERY special home to be worthy of adopting her.  She responds very well to the sound of her name and can place the direction it is coming from  in addition to memorizing floor plans with ease.

A little bit about some of the sadder side of Rescue.  While the dogs we picture for adoption are all fairly healthy looking, and most do come to us that way, there are those that come to us needing much love, care and Veterinary treatments.  This little girl pictured here came to us starving.  At just over 6 pounds her owners said she wasn't eating or eliminating for the last several days.  After extensive medical tests, the only thing found wrong with her was lack of being fed.  It is hard for us to understand how anyone can starve their dog?  Sadly, we see too many that have been neglected, mistreated, and physically abused.  Most can be rehabilitated and we do what we can.  Some will carry the emotional scars and/or physical scars forever.  If it weren't for you, the public, willing to open your hearts and your homes to them, they would most likely be put to sleep.  We want to thank you for having such big hearts and loving these little ones as much as we do.  Lily has a home waiting, she is going to be one of the lucky ones.

After looking at our rescues, come take a look at
what fun they can be!  Photos of our first Hallo-Wiener.
Sancho Panza and Crazy Bear are 4 1/2 year old neutered male mixes whose owner passed away.  They are currently living with relativess who are unable to keep them. The boys can be adopted together as a pair or separately.  Both are housebroken and have had a doggie door to use in their home.  They weigh about 15 to 20 lbs., a nice size pet for most households.
Sancho has whiskers and a black & grey Schnauzer-like coat.  Easy coat to keep up, just brushing or if one wanted, he could go to the groomers and get a cute clip.
Crazy Bear is a smooth-coated little guy, black with white chest and paws.  A 'wash and wear' type of coat that would only require brushing and bathing.
Both dogs are fine with cats, but not with small children.  They have lived their lives with a woman and are wary of men, so it would be best if both found homes with females..They are good little watch dogs and  will bark at unannounced visitors.

Once they meet new people and have a little time to assess the visitor, they are playful and affectionate.  These dogs are both relatively young and have many years to offer a new human companionship and loyalty.  It is one of those sad cases where with the loss of their owner, they must both now find new homes.  If you have wanted a great little companion or even two, you might consider these boys!

Bertie (Roberta) will be three years old next month (Dec.) She's a mini (11 lbs.), with a sleek red smooth coat. She has a very loving, playful, cuddly personallity. She's housebroken and use to using a doggie door. She'll sleep in a crate or your bed (if invited). She is somewhat an alpha girl who'll do best with a submissive dog or as an 'only' dog.  She would love a home where someone is home much of the time. She asks for attention by sitting up and waving her paws at you. Bertie loves walks and is well leash trained. She will bark at people at the door, but is a fast learner and obeys correction. She will overeat if not watched, to allow your Dachshund to get fat is greatly shortening their life. She does best when crated in the car. She is ready to move into her new home!  She'll wiggle her way right into your heart before you know it!

We are just starting to post some of the letters we receive after the adoption.  Testimonies that these little rescues make wonderful additions to a home.
Happy Endings
Introducing Reba.      She is a very tiny girl at just 5 lbs. and because of her very small size she cannot go into a home with children under the age of 15 years.  She is just barely out of puppyhood at 1 1/2 yrs, of age.  A very pretty red smooth girl, she is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations and very healthly . She is house trained and crate trained.  She enjoys walks but we strongly recommend a harness because of her small size. She is very afraid of cats, so no cats in her adoptive home. She would be fine with another small dog.  She loves to snuggle, she does know how to sit ,stay and come when called still need some continued training on these things.

Magoo is a 3 1/2 yr. old, mini Piebald. He came to NMDR via an owner turn in. Magoo was in a stable household for 3 ½ years with two other Dachshunds until the owner brought in two puppies. At some point Magoo turned on the puppies.  Magoo’s owner thought it would be best to give him away, he went to a friends’ home where he got into it with their big dog and returned Magoo.   He then came to us. He is currently in a home with five other Dachshunds without any trouble but the human is Alpha/dominant.  He will need a home where he knows that the 'leader' is the human. When he knows his place he is at peace.
He has gone four weeks without issue. He is the sweetest boy. He is 100% housebroken, doggie door trained, he will sit on command, walks well on a leash and is “night time” crate trained. He has separation anxiety issues and does not do well in a crate when he can not see or be in the same room as you. Magoo is current on all of his vaccinations and is heart worm negative. He is neutered. As with all doxies he loves to cuddle on the couch with you and would love to sleep with you if you allow it. I can not say enough wonderful things about this little dog.

Rhett
George - a "Special Needs" rescue as he has been diganosed with Cushings Disease.  His medications will cost about $18.00-$20.00 per month.  He's a neutered male, 8yrs, old, red smooth standard Dachshund. Vaccinations are current.  In his former home he slept on the bed, under the covers when cold.  He will do best as an "only" dog as tends to be an alpha..  Not a chewer; only chews on his nylabone.   He has been fed separately from the other dogs due to his speed in eating and then trying to get the others' food.  He needs to go out about every 3 hours so that he doesn't have an accident.  He has not been around very many young children, but has been good with considerate children.  He tends to take treats given by hand roughly but listens when told 'easy'.  He likes being inside and likes being outside with his people.  He likes car rides and hanging out in the living room.  He is not crate trained; he does not handle confinement at the vets very well.  If you have a place in your heart and home to offer this special boy, contact Alice for more information or an application.

We welcome these two little gentlemen who are in need a new home together.  Their former mom was disabled and then her health took a decline.  She was forced to put the pair into rescue as she had to relocate to be with family.  Oliver is a black and tan, purebred dachshund.  Quite the dapper man at seven years young. He is a calm guy that is settled and comfortable with himself and life in general. He is a very loving dog and a great companion.  He would classify as a standard at about 20 pounds.  The other half of this handsome pair is Bernie.  Bernie is a young whippersnapper of 4 years. He is a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix that is full of fun and mischeif.  He is very smart and has been very easy to train. He is the size of a mini Dachshund.  We want to keep them together because they have never been separated and are bonded to each other.. As with all of our rescues, they will go to their new home neutered, vaccinated and health checked.  They are house trained.
